Invaders Grow Quickly During Rainy Spell! (& a mini Harvest)

Last week we had quite a bit of rain, and though we stopped by the garden after, we didn’t really do a lot of weeding. Today I finally looked up the mystery plant that seemingly took over the garden during the past two weeks and realized we needed to remove it right away. We had about an hour before more rain was predicted, so we hustled over the garden and did an intensive removal of Velvetleaf. (^_^)

Where did our garden go?!    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We got to enjoy our second mini harvest!

We collected some more of the Black Simpson lettuce (and added it to some store-bought baby lettuce leaves). It seems to be growing much taller after the first harvest (only took the outer leaves).

The Japanese eggplant seems small to me, but Moe insisted on harvesting it. We didn’t prepare & eat it yet, but maybe tomorrow!

One of the two broccoli plants seemed like it was ready to eat, so we harvested the main stem and ate it steamed along side pasta for dinner. It was really good.

We also got two more shishito peppers (one was kind of large), so we’ll probably eat them all tomorrow. We enjoyed eating two before the heavy rains, and we did collect several on our last visit (so technically this was harvest #3).

It is really nice to have some home grown food!
