Human + Nature by Daniel Popper

The new exhibit isn’t quite open yet, but 3 of the 4 sculptures are finished. Artist Daniel Popper seems fascinated by the deconstruction or unravelling of the female form. It has a standardized beauty element, but I personally find the forms a little disturbing—what the artist calls “evocative of nature” also seems a bit violent—a woman is split in two to reveal fingerprint patterns reminiscent of tree rings… a woman is pulling herself open to allow visitors to pass through… The only “male” element seems to be the unfinished giant hands/arms which do not appear to be coming undone… Of course, maybe the destruction of nature is what the artist wishes to evoke with these female forms? tree inspired statue by Daniel Popper shows and African female bust sliced in two with tree rings on the "inside"
sculpture of a female head with many parts of a face surrounding the form
looking up at motherly face from "womb"
female figure whose "womb" is made of roots going into the ground, but welcoming visitors inside
unfinished sculpture - hands/arms

I really should have photographed the signs so I had the names of the sculptures & explanations, but I was hot and hungry. (^_^)
